I recently got a PowerBook G4, which came with os x 10.3.9. So far, I've tried upgrading to both 10.4.0, and 10.4.2 using borrowed installation discs. Both times, i restart my computer only to receive an alert message stating that the software CANNOT be installed on my computer, without giving me any further details. WHY NOT?? This is especially frustrating because most of the programs I want to eventually run require the update. I can't even install the latest version of Flash Player without it. Can anybody help me?
Yes. Install discs are machine specific unless you buy the full retail version of the software you want, i.e: Generic discs.
If you have borrowed discs they are most likely to be for the machine owned by the lender.
No way around it unless someone can lend you a full retail disc. (Apple won't approve!)

Don't promote piracy.

Go out and buy it. Install disks are only for certain machines.

And if you look at eBay and such make sure the discs are the full retail install black coloured discs only as there are many sellers offering the system specific discs as full versions, even though the discs are the silver grey colour.
