Thumbs down OS 10.5 - Pathfinder broke my desktop

when i used windows i´ve always used total commander as my file management prog.
when i bought a mac i started using finder, and i find it very usefull but wanted even more, so i installed pathfinder, an apparent solution. it worked for the first days and afterwards, pathfinder opens and did things i commanded, (like moving renaming and deleting) but when i rechecked those at the finder they where unchanged.
so i said, buggy crap, and erased it.
after doing that my desktop is off. i can acces it through finder, but you can´t see it at the real desktop, you only see the plain wallpaper.
does anyone knows like a terminal command to enable the icons on the deskop?
or any other solution would be great.

Did you "completely" remove Path Finder from your system?

I did, thanks for the advise anyway.
the answer was
In Terminal:
defaults write com.apple.finder CreateDesktop -bool true
and to reboot it... type
killall Finder
