OS 10.5 - lmhosts location

can someone help me please?

I have been playing around with a new 10.5.7 issue. I am wanting to connect to a pc share from a 10.5.7 machine using format smb://computername I can get it to sonnect with smb://ip address and smb://computername.dnsname.yadayada. But i must only use the computername for this one app I use. I have heard that you can enter in the ip and name in lmhosts file and this should work. problem where is this file located? I have tried usuall location /etc and /user/local/samba (that folder does not exist)

If I create a file called lmhosts in /etc and enter in the IP and name it does not work.

in my smb.conf it is set up to work with lmhosts.

Any idea where lmhosts file should be on 10.5.7?

I think you're looking for the /etc/hosts file.
