I just recently bought an imac that came with the install discs for 10.4....I also have an old G4 desktop that is still running 10.2.8. I want to put the newest OS that I can onto the G4 and was told in these forums that the G4 I have will handle 10.4 (500mhz). When I tried to install from the 10.4 discs I got a message saying that the software could not be installed. Do I have to upgrade to 10.3 first...do I need a different install disc? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I suspect that the discs you have are machine specific rather than generic Tiger discs, hence the problem.
If they say iMac on them you will know.

Your iMac install discs are licensed for one machine... the iMac. These OEM disks are also model-specific. You'll have to go buy a licensed copy to install on the G4.

Standing request for all troubleshooting: Please provide your Mac model/year and OS version. Also advise us if you have used or installed any antivirus, security, or "cleaning" software on your Mac. If you have installed MacKeeper in particular, you are hereby advised to uninstall it.
