Hello, everyone. I accidentally deleted a Safari icon that was on my desktop, not knowing it would delete the entire program. I don't have access to the web on my computer anymore and would really like it back! Can somebody please tell me what to do?

why not re-download safari on a different machine, load the dmg onto a flash, and then proceed to install on your mac?

Open up Terminal (Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app) and execute one of the following commands (depending if you want Safari 4 beta or Safari 3):

Safari 4 beta:
Code:
curl -O http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/Safari4/061-4669.20090224.lpsaf/Safari4.0BetaLeo.dmg
Safari 3 (Leopard):
Code:
curl -O http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/Safari3/061-5805.20881124.ShIPH/Safari321Leopard.dmg
Safari 3 (Tiger):
Code:
curl -O http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/Safari3/061-5802.20081124.dCYdh/Safari321Tiger.dmg
EDIT: The link to Safari 4 beta above is for Leopard. For Tiger, execute the following:
Code:
curl -O http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/Safari4/061-4666.20090224.srfi4/Safari4.0BetaTiger.dmg

Or just drag the icon out of the Trash, if you haven't emptied the Trash since then.

If that's not possible, you should do what New York City or vansmith said.

Hey people, thanks for your responses! Sorry I haven't responded sooner...

Well, I attempted the command for Safari 3 (Tiger) and all that happened was a lot of jibberish lettering in the Terminal.app and a weird buzzing sound from my computer. I left it alone to do it's thing and when I returned about 20 minutes later, it was still doing "it's thing." I don't know if I typed the command incorrectly or if it was doing what it was supposed to be doing, but I ended up closing the Terminal.app and haven't re-tried since.

I don't know much about this kind of stuff, so does it sound normal to those who do know?

Thanks again,
Matt
