OS 10.5 - No Destination for Install of OS X

when i go to install the OS there is no destination drive to select. and even when i go into disk utility it only shows the DVD drive. The Hard Drive isn't even there... obviously i never took out the HD so its still there. why is the computer acting like its not even there?!? This has me so fustrated, i'm pretty new to MAC so plz bare with me. Thanks in advance!!

First can you give us a bit more info? What Mac do you own? Model, basic specs, how long have you owned it.

Agreed with dtravis, specs would be nice, but it *sounds* like you've had a HD failure.

My Macs: 2012 Non-Retina 15" MBP; Mac mini G4, 1.25 GHz, 512m ram (server); Late 2011 11" MBA, 1.8GHz i7, 4Gig Ram, 256Gig SSD, HD3000; Powerbook 12" G4 1.33GHz running Debian as a server; Apple TV (1080p version)

Reason I asked is older Macbooks with Seagate drives had a lot of drive failures due to a fault in the seagate drive. Also trying to see if the machine is still new enough to make Apple take care of this for him.

I do agree, it does sound like the HDD is dying/dead.

you know it's funny, the drive that was in my G4 mac mini that failed was a seagate drive - do you know if there is a lot reference somewhere of problematical drives in certain mac production runs?
