Getting rid of the HD icons on the desktop?

I like neat desktop and love the dock, therefore I would like to get rid of the HD icons....

Is it possible?

Yep, you can do it. In Finder, goto Preferences and under General you'll see where you can choose what shows up on the Desktop.

goto finder and drag and drop the hd's to your dock.

Once you have removed your hard disk icons from your desktop. You can click on the happy mac on your dock. That will pop up a finder window with your hard disks on it. Then you can access the disk if needed.

1. i went to finder -the blue smiley face- and i didn't see any PREFRENCES.
am i in the wrong place?

2. also, i have lost my mac ox icon -the @ on a spring- which was in the dock next to the trash.

how do i retrieve it?

Select the finder and then click on 'Finder' in the menu bar. Then click on 'preferences' and then remove the check next to harddrives.

You can acces any programs preferences that way (Nameofapp->Preferences) or by pressing Apple+,


2.The spring icon is just a link to the Os x page at apple.com I think.. you don't really need it.

But does anyone know how to get that icon back for other links? If you create one on the desktop, it's a html icon instead?

Go to the page you want the 'spring' to link to > click and drag the favicon left of the address in the address bar to the right side of the dividing line in the dock. Spring is back :-)
