MacBook - Moving files

I recently had my macbook's hard drive wiped, and I was wondering the best way to transfer all my files (inc music and pics) from my external hard drive back-up?

Is this is a Time Machine backup drive?

There is no system but GNU and Linux is one of its kernels.
