Is there a way to change the default locations for Music, Video, Pictures, etc in Finder?

I would like to be able to store my multimedia on my external firewire drive and be able to access Music, Video, etc on that drive through the selections in Finder.

Thanks in advance,

RP

no, but you can make aliases and put those where you want.

The most easiest way is to place aliases in the appropriate users folders to the external drive.

Looks like you beat me to it Macman. :closed:

Could one of you walk me through that process or direct me to a link that explains that (been a Mac user for six days now).

Ok, Here it goes>

1. Make new folders on the external harddrive and give them the exact same names as the folders in your home folder (Documents, Movies,.....).

2. To get the same icons as in your home folder on your external HD folders do this: Click on the folders in your home folder once, then go to the finder menu File/Get info. Click on the icon under 'General' in the window that appears and then Edit/copy, click once on the new folder on your external HD with the same name and do the file/getinfo thing again, click on the icon under general again and then Edit/paste. Do the same for all the other folders.

3. Now make alia's of the folders on your external drive by clicking on the folders once and then going to the finder menu /file/make alias.

4. Delete the folders in your home folder (make sure they are empty or that the info has already been backed up to the external).

5. Drag the Alias files from your external HD to your home folder and then get rid of the alias bit of text.

Let me know if you have any problems!! I hope the instructions are clear enough.
