Hello All,

I'm sure you're sick of this and I can't blame you... But, all the info I'm finding beats around the issue without actually describing what we have happening at our shop (network).

The File Share - Mac Server 10.5 Leopard (stand alone, not part of the Windows domain)

The Sharer - Windows XP Pro

Just to get over the simple stuff, we can connect, share, read/write, rename, etc... and even MAP (with specific credentials, log on as...)!

That's all good.

But, the frustrating part is that... When the Windows XP machines are logged off, restarted oe shut down and brought back up we get an Authentication Dialog challenge.

Every time.

We enter the same password that the Mapping should know/retain and we get in. Users seem to like simplicity and seamlessness. So, we'd rather they not see any dialog boxes. Yes, yes... telepathy is preferred or some form of Cybermancing.

So, I'm not certain if it's a Windows issue or a Mac issue... We've tried everything we can think of.

Has anyone encountered this?

Eager to hear back!

Hassan

I'm not sure that it's a Windows or Mac issue. It's a trust issue because the server (or the machine acting as a server) is not a domain member. Join the Mac to your domain and it should be fine.

Liquid and computers don't mix. It might seem simple, but we see an incredible amount of people post here about spills. Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics!

The "logon as" credentials that are supplied are only good for the session. That is why that happens. Once you logout or reboot the XP PC the session expires.

Create a user on the OS X machine and the XP PC with the same username and password on both machines and see if the problem persists.
