OS 10.5 - Sound Icon Disappered

My Mac Book is only 4 months old. After a month of using it I lost my SOUND icon in the Preferences. Everything still works but I have no access to the Sound Card and of course I should have my Sound icon back. I noticed other people have had this happen but someohow their Sound icons came back. Mine has not done for the last 3 months. Regular udpates have not brought the icon back. By the way, can anybody advise how to get into the sound device any other way.

Any suggestions?

Your user account may be corrupt. Try logging on with another account (create one if you have to) and see if all the System Preferences Icons are available.
