Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone knows how to properly backup an OSX 10.4 server? I'm kinda spoiled by time machine on my mac pro on leopard.

I know more then enough about unix to be able to backup the majority of my config files (well, at least for named, apache, etc.) but I was wondering if there was a tool within OSX 10.4 server that I wasn't aware of to do it for you?

If you aren't bound by "Free" then look at Tolis Group BRU or EMC Retrospect. There's also Apple's Backup app and several other free cloning apps that can be scheduled. Depends on what you want to achieve.

CCC
SuperDuper
BRU Clone

Nothing is built in outside of Applescript and shell scripting.

You may also want to take a look at LBackup, a free open source backup solution. If you are running Mac OS X 10.4.x or later then you can compile rsync v3 which will then allow you to run encrypted network backups and preserve a great deal of the Mac OS X meta data.
