OS 10.4 - Recent java and securiy updates

after installing latest java and security updates Safari and system prefs crashes after about 10 seconds of opening can anyone help please?

Sometimes just running the combo update can bring a misbehaving installation back to stability (even if you are already running 10.4.11)

Thanks, But i cant get onto these sites as Safari crashes after 10 seconds I'm using a laptop at the moment to get by.

can some one please help me, iv tryed ever thing people have suggested and iv also tryed combo. but remember i cant use safari

How did you get the Combo update (just curious)?

Do you get any errors if you execute the following command at the command line (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app)?

Code:

cd /Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Resources/MacOS/
./Safari

we downloaded the combo to a pc laptop then tranfured the update to the mac via a dvd.

Wow! Do not do that. Pop in your Tiger install DVD, boot holding down 'C' and run Repair Disk. If all is well try Repair Permissions but you may well be up for a system install after formatting the hard drive.

There were all sorts of updates in this and hope you get things back together again.

Have you tried booting from a black coloured full retail Tiger DVD install disc?
