OS 10.5 - itunes problem

just upgraded to leopard 10.5.6 from tiger and now i cannot access the itunes store. its telling me that the host is down and i should check my internet connection. the connection is fine, i checked the itunes store on my windows computer and it works fine so whats up? ive deleted it twice and reinstalled, each time same error comes up. i even created a new user and tried there but no luck
