So I am having issues with my Metal Gear Box external hard drive (it's USB with IDE inside).

If I put my computer to sleep, wake it, and try to shutdown or restart, it just hangs. I spent a good deal of time today to confirm that it was indeed having this drive hooked up that did it.

I have an extra Mac that didn't have 10.5.6 yet and I couldn't re-produce the error. I upgraded to 10.5.6 and was able to re-create the problem on the 2nd Mac.

Has anyone else seen this? I guess I just have to give up on this drive for now.

Might be peculiar to that particular drive as both my external USB hard drives work normally with 10.5.6.

I tried to find out what some of the changes were from 10.5.5 to 10.5.6 but most articles I read listed only the more visible changes. However, there were 39 changes - one that did catch my eye was an update to the way Leopard syncs hardware. I'm not sure if that refers to things like an iPOD, or Cell Phone, or maybe an external hard drive?

It's not uncommon for an update to break something. The update from 10.5.4 to 10.5.5 broke my hurricane tracking program.

Regards.

Thanks for the input. Yea, I have another external drive that is working fine. I found that when I removed the drive from the enclosure and hooked it up with another adapter it worked fine. So it pretty much has to be the enclosure. Not a huge deal. It was a pretty cheap one and only did PATA drives so it was going to replaced someday.
