You guys might have a similar issue as a customer of ours once had. It could be the router & browser combo...

I'd suggest you try modifying the number of simultaneous connections Firefox can make (Safari unfortunately doesn't have a parameter for this, but once we've narrowed it down, we can check the router settings).

Type "about:config" into the firefox address bar and adjust the following settings:

network.http.max-connections-per-server to 2
network.http.max-connections to 6
network.http.pipelining to true

Then give it another whirl!

Interesting! Good to hear that's working as a workaround!

The real issue is with the router then... make / model? Have you checked to see if any firmware upgrades are available?
If you can get your hands on the Safari 4 beta (I think it's a free sign-up) you could see if that improves things as well...

Basically the underlying cause seems to be that your setup won't permit too many simultaneous TCP connections. Google Images pulls 4-6 pictures from about 5 different servers at once, causing some kind of bottleneck.

Greetings Aptmunich

For the last six hours, I've been horizontal, in the arms of Morpheus, or more simply, asleep....

I now have a very brief window before going out in order to earn a crust....

So. The router is a Belkin ADSL Modem with wireless G-Router. Model no: FSD7632-4 ver 4001 UK

I have read some horror stories elsewhere about people updating firmware and thereby rendering the gadget useless, so I'm wary... An update is given at: Belkin : Support : F5D7632 - Firmware Download

I don't have time right now to pursue the beta Safari, but I'll try it later on my return.

Cheers for now. Mitcherooney

Just an additional bit of info: I've just installed Safari 3.2.1

Here's a screenshot from Safari/Window/Activity

Cancelled....?

Cheers again

So using Firefox and adjusting the connection limits didn't change anything for you? Must be two different problems then.

In any case I'd recommend you both try using the affected Macs on different internet connections if possible, so you can rule out network / router compatibility issues. (I know the windows PCs don't seem to be having issues, but it would still help to narrow down the type of issue)

Yes, That's right aptmunich. Adjusting settings on firefox did not help much. I tried every possible scenario I could think of. For your suggestion we are unable to use different internet connections at work unfortunately.

Let me remind you our easy structure again aptmunich

We have actually around 20 computers and two of them are macintosh. We do not have a server system yet so only problem which might have caused the problem either 1) Router settings 2) Mac updates

We have not done any change recently with the router and the guys who use Macs tell us that the problem occurs for couple of weeks.

I have noticed that Macs are recently uptaded but I can not tell what was upgraded cause I am not a Mac user actually.

Based on above infos what might cause it aptmunich?

Hello again. I'm not clear how to effect a different internet connection. What do I connect where, and what settings, if any do I need to make?

Thanks Mitch

Problem Fixed

Hi,
I had the same problem with Firefox & Safari.

When in Safari, click Safari, then 'empty cache'
This fixed it for me, for both Safari and Firefox.
Strange but works.

Hope it works for you too!!

Jack.
