OSX 10.5.6 Finder and date issue

I would appreciate any help. Hopefully this is a simple issue that I am just missing something.

Why in finder are all the dates listed with Month/Day only? How do I get the year as well. I have many documents that span years and the only way to get the most current one is to open them. I tried to sort by date, but it only sorts the month not year.

    Thanks for any help

you go to system preferences>international>format>customize. Customize it to your own liking then save.
Go to finder then click on show view options command+J then make sure date modified is ticked. It should give you the complete date with year
