I have a hot corner setup to start my screensaver on my imac at work, but today it stopped working. I put my mouse in the corner as usual, but the screensaver does not start up.

What's going on?

like dbnoise said, just check the Exposé preferences to make sure that corner is still set for screensavers

I already checked. It is still set to start the screensaver. I even tried setting it to do nothing and then setting it back to the screensaver, but that didn't work. I tried restarting my computer, but the hot corner still doesn't start the screensaver.

Try dragging ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist onto the desktop and logging out and back in.

I don't have that preference. I have dockfixup.plist though?

Are you looking in your user library or you HD library? They are different.

I found the file, but I'm thinking this is part of a larger problem.

After moving the preference file to my desktop, I was unable to logoff. I got an error that logout has timed out because the application Finder failed to quit. I tried force quitting Finder, but it didn't seem to force quit. The iMac will not shut down, either.

I ran disk utility, and it said there weren't any problems.

What is mainmenu?

I tried to verify preferences with mainmenu. What happened was, I selected it and the mainmenu icon blinked red once, and nothing else happened.

I still cannot logout of or shutdown my computer. It's still giving the same error about Finder failing to quit.

I had a similar range of issues starting out with the hot corners not responding or taking ages to respond, then a couple of days later the grey screen of death came knocking. While you cant shut down Id take the time to back up anything you dont want to lose. Sorry for the response limited in the positivity department, but hope you get it all sorted soon.

I tried typing "killall Dock" in terminal and it said "No matching processes belonging to you were found."

I still cannot logout, shutdown, or go into screensaver.

tompotts, thanks for the warning! I hope that doesn't happen, but I backed up my important files to the server just in case.
QUOTE Thanks
