Why don't you tell us what kind of difficulties you're having with Boot Camp? Perhaps someone can suggest a solution less drastic than erasing your hard drive and restore from backup.
Time Machine works as advertised provided you have a good backup made to an external hard drive to restore from. Regards. |

Im trying to install xp to my mac and i am running into the problem error "cannot move files becasue they are locked". i have done extensive googling and searching forums and i cant seem to find a way around this. i have repaired persmissions and all of the servies offered in disk utility.the error messege ssays to format then repartion to a certain format.i have also tried adjusting the size of the partition i wish to create. it is not a space issue. i have 60gb free on HDD which should be more then enough. thanks |

OK. You have drive fragmentation. Quite common when files have been scattered throughout the hard drive. Boot Camp is unable to move files out of the way in order to provide contiguous space. Here are some solutions:
1. Third party software to remove fragmentation. iDefrag (It's not free) 2. Instead of Boot Camp, use Fusion or Parallels to run Windows in a VM. 3. Boot with your Leopard install DVD, erase the HDD, re-install everything including all your apps. (Time Machine may or may not be able to restore everything without also inducing fragmentation.) Regards. |
