OS 10.5 - Annoying alert - how to track down?

Rip Vega is on a distinguished road

Rip Vega is offline
Randomly, every 10-20 minutes, I get an audible alert from my Macbook Pro.

I get no visual indication.

Is there a log somewhere that I can inspect or can I set one up to trace the cause?

I'm running 10.5.6
