Is this a new occurance or just something you've noted? OS X really just doesn't start-up very quickly (at least it never has on my machine). I usually only occasionally fully shut-down my computer anyway - most of the time I just let it sleep.

Yeah os X starts up pretty slow on my machine also, but I do shut it down usually once a day or once every couple of days that way the maintenance scripts for shutdown and startup can run.

I believe, one of the reasons it takes longer to boot, is depended on the amount of memory you have. I think on boot up, there are several system checks being made. The more memory, the longer the system check.

Yes, interestingly enough its seems to take longer to start-up since I upgraded to 640 MB.
