Disable Dock altogether?

Is there a way to completely disable the Dock? I launch everything via the keyboard so I really have no need for it and I would rather give up that screen real estate to the desktop. I know I can auto-hide it but I'd rather not have it running at all.

Well the Dock is tied to many of the features of OS X. Without it you can't even minimize windows. It is also closely tied to Dashboard and Time Machine. Disabling the Dock will likely cause a major loss of functionality across your system. Besides, there is no easy way to do it without messing around with system files, and if you have to ask how to do it, it probably isn't a good idea to go poking around in your system folder.
