I have a problem printing from a Vista computer to a Canon MP750 printer attached to the Mac.
Have Mac OSX 10.4 Mac is on Windows MSHome network with 2 Vista computers. Can successfully print from Mac to MP 750 Canon attached to Mac USB port. The print driver apparently was built into the Mac OSX 10.4 because I did not use any external print driver. Can find MP750 and attach printer as network printer on Mac from Vista Computer. When I print from Vista computer to Mac, the print info spools and appears to go to mac, but no printout occurrs. No warning or error is displayed. I can see the Mac and the Mac files on the network. I can see the printer on the network. Is the print driver on the Vista or Mac the problem? Where should I look? |

Canon had written drivers for the thing for Win and OS X, but did not write any drivers that would allow for multi-OS networking. It would share between Mac's or between Win machines. But not between the two of them nor with a Linux box. Ended up getting myself a network printer to attach to the router and with drivers for multiple OS's. This really is the way to go with multiple OS's in a household. I cannot be held responsible for the things that come out of my mouth. In the Windows world, most everything folks don't understand is called a virus. Place your vote for our Member of the Month |

Have you tried reversing the network so the printer is attached to the Vista machine? If you can get it set up with an IP address, even it the Mac cannot "see" it it should be able to ping an IP address. Fall back plan is Bonjour I would bet.
I have an IP set up HP printer and as long as I set it up first with an IP port on the Windows side, then install the driver if necessary, all my machines can print to it - 1xXP, 3 Macs and two of the Macs run Parallels that also can see it. This is exactly why I only buy Ethernet printers though some new Bluetooth might be fine. |
