hi all newbie so please be gentle
ok being new to a mac i think i have made some fatal error.

the story so far.

i purchased a imac g5 ( isight ) a couple of weeks ago second hand
it was full of the other owners stuff so i formatted the hd with the intention of installing the new leopard os,

and formatting is as far as i have got.

the leopard install disk i have was from my friends ibook ( been told this wont work?) as well as the mac saying
" this mac os x cannot be installed on this computer "

i have also tried another 10.5.2 disk but get the flashing folder icon

according to the apple website the g5 meets the requirements for the leopard os so where am i going wrong??

1. Not only is it not OK to install from the disks that came with someone else's computer, they will not work. The shipping disks are all system specific. A Leopard disk that shipped with an Intel machine will not work on a PPC machine.

2. Go get yourself a legitimate retail version of Leopard. That'll take care of the headaches.

You can't borrow an install set that is licensed to someone else because it is against the Apple EULA. As you've been told you need to purchase your own copy of Leopard.

Purchase from here: Amazon.com: Mac OS X Version 10.5.4 Leopard: Software

Regards.

Go out and BUY a Leopard full retail in stall disk and do it legally. You will need the disc in time to come for maintenance and possible re-installations.
