MacBook Pro - Won't allow me to update

Since I upgraded my hard drive I have not been able to install system updates. Everytime I try to do this through Software Update I get the message "I do not have appropriate access privileges." Can anyone help me with this??? Is this a result of the new hard drive??? How can I work around this??

yeah. i only have one account assigned to this computer. either way i lucked out and the new drive is going back to be replaced. slapped the factory one in and no problems thus far. still, when i get the replacement drive what do i need to do to prevent this???
