Hello fellow Mac users,

I tried to make a backup of many of my files on my Mac, using the Finder. First, the Finder added up the number of files and such and then I got a message that said that some of the files have special permissions and couldn't be copied.

I had two choices, 1) cancel the backup or 2) continue and skip the files with special permissions.

I've tried in the past to fix permissions with "Disk Utility.app", but that didn't make a difference.

I have three questions:

1. What are special permissions
2. How can I tell which files are not getting backed up?

and

3. Do I need to purchase a backup program (such as Super Duper! or the "umbrella one" that comes with MobileMe?).

Give RsyncX a try

Its a no bells and whistles app but it gets the job done, and once the back-up is complete, it can just sync the changes in future

RsyncX - Mac freeware at Freemacware.com - Download RsyncX Here

in fact - that has just reminded me to do another sync of my home folder to my external
