Mac Specs: 2010 MBP: 2.53GHz Intel Core 2, 4GB DDR3, OS 10.6.8

so my 2.13ghz intel imac, running tiger can support up to 3gb ram..

would upgrading to leopard / snow leopard allow me to use more ram?

No, unfortunately this is a hardware restriction and is not related to software.
