This is what I have done so far. I've DELETED a ton of files. I have securely emptied the trash. I have erased free space in Disk Utility. I dont know what else to do. My harddrive still states 200MB free, 222~GB used.

Help?

Unload all your music and videos to DVDs or buy a larger hard drive. Large hard drives are inexpensive and depending on what model Mac you have, can be user replaced.

Take a look here: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/

That's not my concern. I want to free some space on the HD I have already so I can actually use it. I don't want to buy a new HD just yet. I'm just wondering why the space from my HD isn't freeing up after I have deleted all the files and what not.

You may want to check out a program called monolingual:

http://monolingual.sourceforge.net/

Removes unwanted languages. Use with caution though. By default it has it set to delete old architectures that you may need, dunno. I wasn't aware of this and deleted all the old architectures on mine and haven't had a problem, mostly because everything I use is now in universal binary. I used it and freed up about 4 gigs.

You may want to consider removing unused programs that come with the mac. Garageband etc. I have yet to even touch garage band on my fairly new macbook. I haven't removed it either but I hear it frees up some space.

Don't know how old your macbook is but you can check out another thread I started about disabling safe sleep:

Disabling safe sleep

Cheers.

Download and run Disk Inventory X. It gives you a visual representation of what's occupying your disk space. Might help track down the problem

External hard disk acquisition addict - but admitting the problem is the first step to a robust backup
