Currently running:

Macbook Pro 15" - Leopard OS, VMware + Windows XP SP2.

So I just switched from Parallels to VMWare Fusion v.1.1.3 and so far it seems nice but there are a couple of bugs/problems that are a little irritating.

First of all, for some reason everytime I start my Mac up and launch VMware the Caps lock gets all buggy. With Caps lock ON, my windows side types in lower case and my Mac side types in upper case and when Caps lock is OFF it's vice versa. The only way I can fix this is to go to my Keyboard preferences in Mac and open up the dialog box, run through the first prompt and close it. After I close it - it's fixed... even though I didn't really do anything to change it. Anyone else experience this?

Second of all, and extremely important to me, I can't seem to share my Mac home folder with my Windows side. I somehow got it by typing in my ip address but everytime I try and write to the folder it gives me an error and if I try it again, it sometimes works and sometimes not. Why can't I "share" my home folder with my PC by using the "\\.host\Shared Folders" like I did in Parallels and how my co-worker is doing it in VMware Fusion? The person who set his VMware shared folders up is not with us anymore so I'm very lost with this whole thing. I have the VMware Shared Folders icon in my "Entire Network" folder in Windows but when you double click it, it gives you an empty folder.

Please help! Thanks for all your help in advance.

I haven't experienced the first and the second you can share. It's an option in vmware, since i'm not on a machine that has it installed though you'll have to look for it, I know that instructions on how to do so were included with the software and are available on their site.

i had pasrallels and now have VMWare because the latter works better with the linux. on a macbookpro i run 10.5.4 + ubuntu + micorsoft XP.

in VMWare:
-yes i have the caps lock bug, post if you find a fix.
-file sharing, its busted for Ubuntu but for XP i expect it to work. here is a forum:
http://communities.vmware.com/commun...desktop/fusion

-again post what you find for your problems and fixes
-products like parallels or vmware are in-between so be specific what revisions you have all around.
-running all three os at one time its better to have 4gig memory

I had the the 'reverse caps lock' problem with Fusion but after a couple of days it reverted back to normal with no intervention. Odd. I never did get to the bottom of it but it's been Ok now for a few weeks.

Happiness is not getting what you want, but wanting what you get.
