Is there any boot drive encryption available for os x? I keep seeing writeups about PGP but it doesn't look like it's available yet. I really like Truecrypt on windows but I can't find anything comparable for os x.

or you could use FileVault (built in) if you just want to encrypt your home folder

macswork, yes but unfortunately it doesn't yet support encrypting the boot volume. other than that it's a pretty great product

louishen, thanks, might have to use that

you don't need to encrypt your entire volume, just the home folder is enough because that's where all your personal files are…

encrypting your home folder can be achieved by using filevault

There is also a "secure virtual memory" option in the Security Sys Prefs.

I am on the PGP alert status for full drive encryption, but I'm sure it will sell for $50-$150.

I would also suggest utilizing the Firmware Password feature for security's sake.

Also the file vault feature does work "if" you store things in your home folder. Just be sure you have a backup of your data.

thanks all, good info

I wasn't aware of the secure virtual memory option. Pairing that with an encrypted home folder will probably get me where I need to be.
