Right here we are with a strange problem:

Due to a problem with keychains MacOS would not let me log in saying my password was invalid. I logged in as another user and changed the password. Still wouldn't let me in. Booted off MacOS disc and reset password. Still wouldn't let me in. Tried to alter permissions to allow me to get access to all the data of the first user and computer crashed. At this point the computer will not boot and just resets after 5 mins...

Hooked up computer to Macbook pro and drive 2,3 & 4 all have a padlock next to them. When you view info on those drives you cannot change ANY permissions at all and all the permissions that are there show as CUSTOM.

Re-installed MacOS on drive 1 from time machine backup off drive 4 (leopard disc can read the drive!).

Mac pro sees the drives just as Macbook pro did and I cannot get access to the data. All drives verify, disc utility can tell me how many files and folders there are but if I try and access anything I get "The folder "Copy" could not be opened because you do not have sufficient access privileges."

Tried logging in as ROOT - still no access

I have tried a fresh install of Leopard which sees the same things.

Basically I cannot access drives 2,3&4 and nothing I do can get past the privilege problem even though disc utility knows what is on the drives!

Applecare have been unable to find the solution either !!

Experienced computer user, applications programmer and component level service engineer but came to the Apple platform with intro of intel!. Pro-photographer and director of electronics company.

cowasaki,

I can't imagine what you haven't done to fix this problem...

It's both strange and tough! What can one do when THAT happens? I hope someone here can help you - I wish I could...
