OS 10.4 - Shutting down when choosing Sound Pref

hey all,

all day today, whenever i click on the "sound" preference, i get the black screen of death and have to restart. any ideas? it might be related to my sound card (M-Audio Delta Audiophile 24/96 PCI). it even shuts down when i try to trash my m-audio delta app. thanks in advance.

ok,

so i booted up in safe mode, deleted the M-Audio App and preference panes from my main drive and my back up drive. restarted and now it works fine. the system still recognizes my sound card even without the app and preference pace. totally weird.

welp, its crashing when i choose my sound pref again. does anyone have any clue why it would do this? would a hardware test show me anything? thanks in advance.
