Hey everybody.

I've just got my shiny new imac but I'm not sure the best way to move all my apps, movies, pics, music etc over from my old imac. Is there any Software to make this an easy process or infact just what is the best way of doing it?

Any help would be much appreciated.

If both macs support Firewire, then connect both macs together using a firewire cable. Then boot the new imac in Target mode (press T key at boot item), then you can mount the hard disk on the old mac and then you can drag and drop files and most apps across. NB: Some apps such as Adobe or MS Office will need installing properly on the new mac.

Use the Migration Assistant. If you have an external hard drive, make a backup of the old machine onto it using a tool like SuperDuper!. Then, connect the external to the new machine and run the Migration Assistant from Applications => Utilities (I believe this also runs automatically during initial setup of the new machine). It will easily pull all of your docs, data, apps and settings over to the new machine.

Liquid and computers don't mix. It might seem simple, but we see an incredible amount of people post here about spills. Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics!
