In short: When i try to boot from my slipstreamed xp sp2 cd i get an error : NTLDR file missing thus denying me from booting from it, and installing windows
I did a slipstream today of my old XP cd with SP2, inorder to do an install in boot camp. I followed Paul Thourruts tutorial, and then when that cd failed, the elder geeks tutorial, which also failed. i tried a total of 4 times, and thus now have more windows xp cd's that one would like in his possession at a time! When i launch the boot camp assistant i do what it tells me to do, and insert the cd i slipstreamed, everything seems to go well, until i reach the actual booting of the cd. I get the error that the NTLDR file is missing, thus preventing me from installing windows, and getting any further, than restarting my mac, and holding the option button, boot in the trusty OSX (10.5) I've been using NERO burning rom 5 for the burning and writing of the cd's, and i made sure i had the 'hidden' file 'microsoft corperation.img' extracted using the ISObuster program, in order to make the new CD bootable, but little has it apparently helped. Please help me out here! grean thanks in advance

You're probably not doing the slipstream correctly or the copy of XP you're trying to add SP2 is not a real full install CD. You can not use a restore CD or one that is designed specifically for a particular brand of computer.
The "missing NTLDR" problem is almost always associated with a botched "boot.ini" file which must be present and correct in order for Windows to find its system folder and boot loader. Typically, boot.ini is missing from restore CDs which is why I asked about that. If you have a real full install XP CD, try using "Autostreamer" instead to build your slipstreamed CD. Go here to download a copy (it's free): http://www.softpedia.com/progDownloa...oad-13918.html Also make sure you have the full version of SP2 to slipstream with. P.S. Edit...... I just noticed you mentioned using something called "corperation.img" - what the heck is that? Sounds like some kind of a hack. You don't need to extract anything to make your disk bootable as the copy of XP you already have is bootable. All you're doing with a slipstream is adding and replacing older files with the SP2 files. Using Nero 5 is OK, that should work as Autostreamer will automatically find it if it's on the same hard drive. If you have any further questions, feel free to post back here or contact me by PM. I've tried two different XP cd's, one of which happened to be a restore CD that came with my old computer, the other i tried is a genuine XP cd (which both are, i might add, since i paid for them, and have my own serial number) The *.img file im talking about is mentioned in the tutorial i've followed http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase...slipstream.asp , and should supposedly make the slipstreamed CD bootable, it does however not. Im giving AutoStreamer a try now! if everything goes well, i post it here, and if not, i might contact you by a PM if you dont return to this thread. Thanks for your help so far! ![]() Autostreamer didn't work for me, it popped out an '.ISO file which i burned to a CD, but still no result, now my mac dosn't even recognize it as a bootable CD... OK. If Autostreamer didn't work, and you correctly slipstreamed SP2 to the disk, it leads me to think that the copy of XP you have is not a full install version or possibly it's a branded copy. In other words, it's not going to work.
I just recently used Autostreamer on an OEM system builder's full install copy of XP and it worked fine. Regards. |

The Win CD im using, is a 2002 XP Home Edtion (autostramer told me it was a gold edtion, what ever that means ) and im sure its genuine, since it has a silver texture with a gazziilion watermarks, and reflecting trademarks. The previous i used was black, and was in fact a restore CD.

I've never been more confused!
I used autostreamer to create an *.ISO file, which i burned to a CD-RW using NERO 5.. i made sure i had the got all the options right, boot sectors, and labels, and write methods... yet still my mac dosn't see it as a bootable disc, although this time i didn't get any errors, just a blinking underscore similiar to what you'd see in a DOS console window. When i choose the CD (bootable) in Nero, it asks me to specify an ISO, i browsed to the ISO autostreamer created, and didn't drag&drop any files to the disc besides that. Could you give me a step by step guide, just a short one, with the very core things and options you do in your burning program |
