I recently changed the name of my brand new Macbook Hard Drive. After a few days one program started crashing and the disk utility check thing wasn't finding any problems. Then someone mentioned to me that a problem may occur if you change the name of your hard drive. Meaning, the computer will not be able to find the Hard Drive when it searches for it. Does anyone know if this is actually true? I have had changed Hard Drive names before but I thought I would ask anyways.

Thanks.

Hi:

Do not change the name of your hard drive. Most OS X programs will specifically look for "MacIntosh HD" and either will not install correctly or if they've already been installed, work correctly. (As you just found out.)

Change it back and leave it alone. No reason to change it anyway. If you wish to change names of partitions and hard drives, buy a Windows machine and change their names to your heart's content.

Regards.
