OS 10.5 - Can I import pictures without iPhoto?

I hate iPhoto, so i was wondering if there is another way to import my pics from my camera within OSX, without using another program.

Import them directly to your desktop via Finder. Open the disk image that mounts from your card reader (or camera) and simply drag the pics from the folder named DCIM (or similar) to wherever you want them. You can delete pics from your camera via the OS Trash as well.
