OS 10.4 - Sleep mode delay - reset power manager?

Hi,

Just recently I've experienced a delay when I put my iBook G4 to sleep (hitting power -> sleep mode or closing the lid).
If I press the bottom, for instance, the screen is still on, but the computer doesn't react normally. Then after almost 20 seconds it goes to sleep. Even if I have no programs running.

Is it safe to reset the power manager for this? Cause this is what's controlling the sleep mode, right? Or is there another option?

I've now tried to reset the power manager, but the problem's still there. What can cause such a long a delay from the computer is told to go to sleep, till it actually does it...
