    hard drive password
    how do i set a hard drive password for my 2005 powerbook.

    Login or firmware?

    Use the firmware password to keep some one from booting your Mac to another bootable disk, target disk mode or single user mode.

    Add a password to an existing user. Most likely the password is blank now so when it asks for an old password just use nothing.

    You will also want to set the Mac to NOT auto login. This is usually done in the Accounts Preference under login options.
