how do I empty the trash when items are locked and I can't remove them??

I tried to get rid of some software that I don't use (wd_windows_tools) but now I can't empty the trash because multiple items in the folders are locked. I can't move the folders back onto the desktop because my imac simply make copies instead of moving them. How can I unlock all these items or get rid of the folder altogether?
edit: nevermind. A simple search and I found the answer. option-empty trash. Worked like a charm.

Note moved to a better forum (OS X - Operating System):
If I remember correctly press and hold the option key. Then select empty trash from the drop down menu.Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, It's about learning to dance in the rain!
