OS 10.5 - Deleting downloads

I have many files in my 'downloads'. I can delete them by dragging to Trash, but when I do this, the 'downloads' stack disappears.

Is there any method of retaining the download stack or deleting several files at once?

In your stack, click on "Open in Finder". Then just select all the files you want to delete and then delete them!

The downloads folder is under your home directory. You can delete the files from there.
