I am trying to install The Gimp onto my Powerbook.

I have the program, but it is saying it needs X-11 to run. This is fine I have downloaded the latest installer from Apple, but that is refusing to install because there is a more up to date version already on my computer, allegedly!

Only thing I can think that is causing the problem is that I have Apple's Developer Toolkit installed on my machine.

Only one got any bright ideas how to solve this.

Thanks in advance

I have the Tiger upgrade disc, so I'm not sure, which disc you should look in.

Once the Tiger disc window is launched, scroll down to the middle System/Installation/Packages/X11User.pkg.

Tried that, keep getting this "Can't install on this disk as newer version of software already exists". It is driving me up the wall.

Thanks for the idea though. Anyone else?

Do you have Tiger or Panther? Something that comes to mind is that you might have used the Panther installation disc instead of the Tiger disc. That version of X11 worked for me and for someone else I helped awhile back, so I'm not sure what is going on.

Sorry, but this is going to be redundant. Did you try installing X11 from your Tiger upgrade disc or your Panther installation disc.

Awhile ago, when I was trying to get X11 to install with the one downloaded from the Apple site, it just would not work. But I swear the one off the installation disc of Tiger works perfect. I never found another copy of X11 that worked besides the one off the disc. Sorry, guys, just not sure.

Tried it again just to make sure it wasn't working and this time it installed.

Cheers
