I edited a movie in iMovie 08 and when I try to burn a dvd I have nothing but trouble. I never had this trouble on my pc. The dvd, once burned, opens like a text document. Also, I can't get the iMovie to open in anything other than the iMovie format. What every happened to dragging onto a disc and burn? The one disc I burned, I tried to play on my dvd player. As usual, it won't open and I get that "root" menu look on the screen.

Once you have edited your video, you will need to import it into iDVD to create the DVD.

exactly. Simply burning a file to a DVD won't create a movie that will read on a DVD player.

Are you actually exporting a movie at all? You say you can't get the 'imovie' to open in anything but iMovie. If you exported a quicktime movie file, then it should open in quicktime.

Are you just saving the iMovie document and then burning that? Make sure you export properly with the appropriate settings for DVD. There maybe be presets for that, but I'm not sure. I haven't used wither iMovie or iDVD in a while, and I don't have the 08 versions.

Well...I'm totally confused. I downloaded video from my sonycam. I edited it and I'm trying to make a movie to cd. I am unable to convert it to anything other than a text copy.

If you open your finished edit in iMovie, then export it to quicktime. It should end up in a .mov file.

Once you have exported it to a quicktime movie. Then open up iDVD and import the movie after you have selected your theme. You can then create the DVD.

Nah.....I went ahead and loaded the iMovie into the iDVD and I got my movie. I guess I do like the speed of just a burn without the "themes'. 07 doesn't work anyway....that has been documented all over the place. When oh when will they get that one fixed? I think I'll buy Toast....I liked using Roxio on my PC....I assume it will be similar.
