I cany play any of my .avi films in front row. I presume this is because i dont have the right codecs? I just use vlc player to play them but sometimes i want to use vlc. What codecs would i need to get it working?

Actually, to get videos playing in Front Row, you have to add them to iTunes, and in order to do that, they have to be in h.264 format. So to watch your videos on Front Row, you would have to convert them first.

oh Kash...
Front Row that comes installed with 10.5 isn't necessarily linked to iTunes. It will recogize all of the iTunes library but it also recognizes anything in the movies folder. I got aliases to Video_TS folders in my movie folder. It picks up the link and plays Video_TS folder like a DVD.
to the original poster, it's more than likely you need to download the DIVX codec. Put the movie in the movies folder.
Tell us if it works or not.

If you're running 10.4, do as Kash said.

No, Flip4Mac only works for WMV files, not AVI.

No, that's not the case in 10.5. It will play files from anywhere in the Movies folder...and even over a Network.

Rather than installing separate codecs for all kinds of things, my suggestion is to use the open source Perian plugin. It will bascially play anything besides WMV. So with Flip4Mac and Perian you can plan anything without messing with multiple codecs.
