I seem to remember reading here something reading AntiVirus software and the need not to use it on the Mac OS.

Is this true ?.

The Official Mac AntiVirus and Firewall FAQ

Basically, there are no Mac viruses, anti virus software will find any PC viruses on your hard drive but they cannot run under OS X

Use the free ClamX virus scanner if you just want to do the occasional scan
