is there a way to synchronize iCal and google calendars?

I would like to use iCal to view my google calendars, but more importantly I want to be able to edit the calendars in iCal as well. I know I can subscribe to google calendars but this won't allow me to edit them.
Basically I want to be able to view my calendars while offline, but when I'm online iCal and the online calendars will be synchronized. I want my calendars online because I would like my wife to be able to view then and change them.
Is this possible?

Yes there are a few solutions out there right now. However, some are complex and none are error free.
I don't know of any off the top of my head, but perhaps someone will be along to give you the name. Until then, you should be able to Google for some of them.
