Many people have reported this.

There is probably not going to be a fix. Adobe does not support anything except PS CS3.

Photoshop CS2 supposedly runs (though it will run slowly on an Intel Mac.)
Same thing with Photoshop Elements 4.

Photoshop CS3 is compatible and runs at native speed.

As does GraphicConverter 6.

I'm running CS and it works okay. If you don't want to pony up for CS3, try The Gimp. It's an Open Source alternative that is great.

check out The GIMP

This program aims to be a replacement for PhotoShop, and there is an added bonus: the price tag is quite low

Edit: I dunno what happened... I actually made the original post @ 9:30 my time... 30 mins later, there it is! Odd...

Rats! I thought it might just be me 'n my fudged copy of Photoshop. !@*%!

GIMP is another one that doesn't work with Leopard (according to the list on MacRumors. To prove this, I just tried it and it failed on my system). The GIMP guys are, however, working feverishly to get out a Leopard-ready version shortly. It's a great little app -- though no Photoshop -- and since it runs under X11, it's a bit strange to use.

Guess I'm gonna have to fall back on the Windows version of Photoshop running under Parallels. Rats! Pfui!

Hmmm. You don't suppose that Apple will address the Photoshop bug in a future fix of Leopard, do you?

PS 7 is so old I am not too shocked it does not run. I tried my copy of CS and it ran fine.

I have used Photoshop on Mac since version 3.04 and have 7.0 now.

Installed Leopard and now can not launch Photoshop.

I have found at work that Photoshop Elements offers most of the things I want to do with Photoshop as an eager amateur. It is only about $80.

I may upgrade to CS3 so that I have a better future with RAW images from a future camera.

Apple will only support the CS3 Design Studio. However there is a site that shows you what is supported/working.

Erm, sorry, that one's out, too. According to the "leopardsupport.pdf" (linked above by mshale), users of Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 and earlier are: "Likely to encounter issues for which there is no resolution" when using Leopard. This is their most recent version, however, so I can't see this as an acceptable position. Adobe is selling this as their latest version so they will happily take your money knowing that their product will fail if you are running or will be installing Leopard. Reprehensible.

From the MacInTouch article, Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard: Software Incompatibilities:

Quote:
Adobe

Adobe has released a compatibility list in the form of a PDF file [leopardsupport.pdf] and says that most components of Creative Suite 3 are compatible with the exceptions below.

Acrobat 8 Professional
Compatibility update scheduled for January 2008.

Pro video applications, including Premiere Pro CS3, After Effects CS3 Professional, Encore CS3, and Soundbooth CS3
Compatibility updates scheduled for December 2007.

Photoshop Elements 4 and earlier
"Likely to encounter issues for which there is no resolution."

Creative Suite 2 and earlier
"While older Adobe applications may install and run on Mac OS X Leopard, they were designed, tested, and released to the public several years before this new operating system became available. You may, therefore, experience a variety of installation, stability, and reliability issues for which there is no resolution. Older versions of our creative software will not be updated to support Mac OS X Leopard."

There are some alternatives to Photoshop if it is to edit images and save them for web (72ppi resolution).

For printing purposes (for image resolution higher than 72ppi), maybe GIMP (haven't looked at it for a very long time) but few are out there to my knowledge. Apps like Skitch, Pixelmator, Pixel Image editor, Acorn, etc. don't seem to support higher rez. Maybe GrahpicConverter does: this is another app I haven't used in ages...

Photoshop Elements might save at higher rez though, not sure of this since I never tried it. But Elements 5 is due out soon for the Mac, I think.

as a daily photoshop user i would recommend just moving away from version 7 if you can. the changes to cs alone are worth the effort, and cs3 is light years ahead. however, if you don't need $650 worth of photo editing and image creation ability - most don't - then look at the latest version of elements. you could also consider adobe lightroom. it's an outstanding package made for making small edits to large numbers of images, including those in raw format.
