Firstly sorry if this is the wrong place for this thread.

Ok, now why I am really here.

Basically i bought a new iPod nano the other day and put some music onto it. I loaded the music of a CD into iTunes synced mu iPod with iTunes and it loaded on fine. I don't listen to my music on the computer so i then deleted the music from iTunes. A little later i decided to put some more music on my iPod so i loade a different CD into iTunes (this is now the noly musi in iTunes as the CD allready on my iPod i deleted as sadi above) however this time when i synced, the old musci was deleted and replaced by the new musci. Is there any way to keep the old music on your iPod and add new musci without having ti have the ld music saved on your computer for example can you choose just to add music instead off replace it

Thanks (sorry if it sounds quite confusing)

Any help would be great

Thanks

Adam

You have to disable the "Automatic sync" and make it Manual. Don't have my iPod at the moment, but it will either be in the system preferences or in the "Settings" tab after you connect your iPod.

I did this but it still deletes my old music (not savd in iTunes) and replaces it with the music saved in iTunes. or am i still doing something wrong. Could someone give me a step by step guide if possible. Surely it's posible to add music to your iPod and still keep the old music on aswell without having to have all your music saved on your computer??

Thanks

Basically whenever you sync your ipod be it manually or auto it will sync it to be the same as your itunes library so If you have tracks on your ipod that arn't in the library it will remove them from your ipod, I think there are ways around this using software like senuti but as far as i'm aware there not an option within itunes to stop it happening (i may be wrong). so basically you do need all the music on your computer/itunes to have it on your ipod.

Really! Sorry but that seems stupid! I would have thought it's on the ipod so it doesn't have to be on the computer?? Say I have 1000 songs on my ipod and none of it's my music it's music I've borrowed or downloaded, and then we decide to get a new computer: next time i sync it with itunes on the new computer with no music all of it will be deleted??

You are wrong. If you have it set to manage your music manually then it will not sync to your library.

ajlwoody, follow this link to have your iPod manually sync. If you need more help just ask.

There is an option within itunes to transfer from your ipod to your music library (I think it does ask automatically when you connect an ipod for the 1st time) which will then copy everything, however if you dont take this step when you sync your ipod it will sync it to the same as your music library i.e yes it will wipe your ipod if theres nothing in there.

This is what has happened in my experience, there maybe a workaround but I dont know it, If you go onto itunes you can email support & i'm sure they'll give you a definate answer...& there pretty quick usually.

Hope this helps.

Sort of true. This will only copy over purchased files that you have permission to play on your computer.
