Here's my situation:
Currently I have two accounts set up through Mail. One is through my ISP and one is through my school. The one through my ISP is like most other e-mail providers - you delete a message and it gets moved to the trash, then you can choose to actually delete it for good. With my school e-mail, you delete the mail, then you have to purge the deleted messages. My problem is the following. Mail doesn't actually delete the e-mail; it just deletes it from the Mail application. That is, if I log onto the e-mail servers via a browser, the messages which I have deleted are still present. So my question is, is it possible to "actually delete" the mail (by means of both deletion from the trash and purging)? If not, what recommendations would you give for alternate software (I use Outlook in Windows. I'm new to the Mac).

Thanks,

Dave

Hi,

So is your school e-mail an IMAP or POP account?

Oh, sorry forgot to specify: My school e-mail is IMAP and my ISP e-mail is POP. Thanks for the quick reply by the way.

In "Settings => Accounts => Mailbox behaviors" you can specify if you want the messages to be deleted from the server or not. That works with my IMAP-accounts.

Thanks Roger. That helped for the most part. Are you aware of anyway to purge the messages that have been deleted from IMAP (as that is the only way to get them off the server)? Also, with the POP e-mail, there didn't seem to be a way to remove it from the server if and only if I delete it. The best I could do with the POP account was to have it delete from the server when I download the message. Either way, not a big deal - things I can adjust to.

Thanks again,

Dave
