Safari using an obscene amount of RAM and Virtual Memory?

I'm a relatively new Mac user, and wondering is this normal? I have three windows sitting idle, and it's clocking in at 220mb of real and more than 600mb of virtual. Seems kind of high!

Mac Specs: Mac Pro 8x3.0ghz 12gb ram 8800GT , MBP 2.16 2GB Ram 17 inch.

it does seam high, i couldn't tell you why.

Oh well. I've donwloaded both Opera and Camino now. They seem to be using far less. Maybe I'll switch.
