I have several burned CDs that have either rotted away or were not burned properly to begin with. I suspect the former.
When freezing them didn't work, I turned to the internet to look for software. I remember back when I used NT 4.0 that there was an interesting piece of software for making copies of CDs. It was loaded with options to output audio in certain formats using certain codecs while getting around certain security features, etc. One of the most interesting features was a disk error section that started out looking normal enough, with options to re-read sectors that produced errors to make corrections for audio quality. Things got intense when I saw all the various ways in which I could read the disk (slow, fast, burst, paranoia) and what I could do with errors. I could specify the app to read bad parts of the disk over and over to make the best guess for quality. Up to 128 times. Does anyone know where I can get software like this for OS X? All I want to do is restore CD-R data disks with my personal information on them. I need software that will read bad sectors over and over again. Can I do this with dd in the Terminal? |
